Universal Design
Universal Design is the design of products and environments to be usable by everyone, to the greatest extent possible, without the need for adaptation or specialized design.
By applying this approach in your home, we can design and build a space that not only increases safety and convenience, yet also creates usability and value for all that will enjoy the home.
Universal Design is based on 7 core principles and is central to the Silver Age Homes approach.
1. Equitable Use
The home design plan is intended for everyone that will use the home, acknowledging that they will have diverse needs and abilities.
2. Flexibility in Use
The home layout, finishes, and fixtures will accommodate a wide range of individual preferences and abilities.
3. Simple and Intuitive Use
Use of the design is easy to understand, regardless of the user’s experience, knowledge, communication skills, or cognitive abilities.
4. Information Clarity
The necessary information is effectively communicated to the user, regardless of ambient conditions or the user’s sensory abilities.
5. Tolerance for User Error
The home design and components will minimize the risk from accidental or unintended actions when variances from the intended use occur.
6. Low Physical Effort
The design can be used efficiently and comfortably and will minimize effort and fatigue.
7. Size and Space for Use
